Oh yay. Biology test’s on Wednesday.
Not Monday. -.-
Cleared my doubts for Integration… like finally.
Finally understand how to do trigo integration la wth. LeeTK zooooooooooooooooooom and its over in class, dint manage to catch much of what he was saying on Friday OMG.
Damn lame. I was like staring blankly, feeling as lost as Jun An, the both of us lagging like shit.
Nvm, what matters is NOW I CAN DO IT =X
Reality Check yet again.
Integration Ws 2 Practice done.
Integration As 1 done. With some queries cleared by HN.
iHC slackish worksheet done.
Chem C4H8 isomers done.
GreenSchoolinginHCI NOT DONE. O_O
Mindmaps for Periodicity, Experimental Techniques severely OVERDUE.
Filing OVERDUEx10000
Fack.
And I haven’t started on Math and Physics Revision, tests in week 3 leh ahhhhh.
It’s a miracle.
I sat at the exact same spot in the library for 12 hours over a weekend. Sian diao, still got so much work not done. I feel like an ass.
Haha, time to take my mind off studies for about 5 minutes. It appears GERMANY is going up against SPAIN.
Not a great fan of either… But SPAIN got CESC FABREGAS <3 like Arsenal’s best representative lor. So I take Spain liao.
Cause their team got Arsenal player! Whee.
(: Borrowed this Core Strength Training book to read and maybe learn something to build up my Core so can break easier. Slowly, I’m inching towards my goal.
Then also borrowed this Korean in Plain English book for pure fun. Pick up a lil bit of the language so next year’s trip won’t die la.
Ya, really hope can go Korea lor, with my family. That would be damn great. After Xh’s psle.
Dint wanna go Mongolia, because the $ doesn’t come easy. Just save up and then maybe enjoy ourselves next year.
I don’t think there are any hopes of me going overseas this year liao. Haha. Ok stop dreaming.
Let me see…
About 3.80 million more seconds, then something magical will happen.
Dahwei.
Out of Bounds.
I made 2 new Korean friends today.
Was at Bishan Library again. I sat at the exact same corner from yesterday.
Played my tunes on my new phone and left it on loudspeaker (LEAST AUDIBLE VOLUME). Then these 2 koreans came, sat down beside me and recognized the 狗狼之時 soundtracks that I was playing (in Korean)
=X Then I found out they were here for a study trip, for the objective of learning conversational English.
Ironic isn’t it? People coming to Singapore to learn Standard English. Not that Singapore doesn’t feature good English speakers, but our ability is definitely lower than other countries.
So, 2 new friends (Korean girls okay).
——————-
But the issue at hand that’s more important is the education system in Singapore.
To be more precise, the standard of English education in Singapore.
An average Singaporean is able to speak Singlish with the highest proficiency. Definitely higher than any other foreign visitor.
Is this what is expected of us? Being able to speak a “language” that features a mix of English, Chinese, Hokkien, Malay … and a plethora of unnecessary Singaporean slangs which are appropriately affixed to the end of every sentence.
Eh you do your English compre liao?
See what I mean.
Our education system, or at least the one I’m experiencing now, does little but to teach students how to comprehend a seemingly intellectual passage and then answer questions dutifully.
Wow.
I mean, being able to UNDERSTAND A TEXT, COMPREHEND, and THEN ANSWER QUESTIONS are mostly the stuff we are doing now. It’s just a dignified form of corporal punishment.
Shut up. Read. Answer.
Here’s an anecdote from Friday’s English lesson:
Dw: “Ms Lim, what exactly are we supposed to do for the vocabulary section? Take the word out of its context and give it a synonym? Or are we supposed to find a substituent for the word, that fits into the context provided in the passage?”
Rejoyce: “Okay first school of thought, is to give the word a proper substituent that would fit appropriately into the text.”
Dw: “Then Ms Lim I don’t agree with the answer scheme. I find that some of the answers provided don’t even fit into the text.”
Rejoyce: “It’s not necessary for the word to fit into the text.”
-What the hell?-
zzz.
I don’t understand what’s the meaning of this. Please stop making us look like we are incapable of tackling the comprehension passage, just because it’s one from RG. All our answers, were wrong wrong wrong -.-
Man I think some of us are able to fight on level ground with the other schools. Bleahx, I don’t know, maybe we just don’t answer the way the answer scheme wants us to.
Zzz. Score range for that compre was 21-35 upon 50. Guess what, this doesn’t reflect our ability at all.
Honestly, I think comprehension exercises are basic exercises to test your capabilities in English.
We should start transcending beyond the realms of comprehension exercises (=X baifeng), and migrate into composition, without compromising on the skills required to tackle Comprehension, of course.
Composition doesn’t equate the weird stuff that you write to answer Functional Questions or Essays.
Composition is the art of composing, synthesising ideals and painting a beautiful picture of what you believe in.
We are lacking opportunities to learn how to write better. And writing should be our impetus for improving our standard of English.
Just imagine, a society of young Singaporeans who have been drilled to the core to answer questions but aren’t given sufficient choices to express themselves.
Just my 0.001 cents worth. No personal attack / insult / anything.
Purely opinions.
—————-
Sian diao, those RG compres, NY compres, really aren’t as bad as our English teachers are portraying them to be. It’s just that we aren’t given enough exposure LOR. LOR LOR LOR. =X
eeee. Why Chinese got zuowen, English so little zuowen one.
Reality check.
Biology:
All topics covered for upcoming test.
Chemistry:
All topics (Sec 3-Sec 4) mapped out except Periodicity and Experimental Techniques) – I included Chemical Calculations and Air in the mapping, because I thought those two more impt.
Physics:
A SINGLE ONE DONE. -.-
Math:
Matrices to Binomial Theorem (1-6) done.
The rest, A SINGLE ONE DONE.
Wah Im damn screwed la, one weekend day left and so much work to cover…
Dahwei.
